The title above is from an article that was featured in the OR Management News in 2018. With the Covid-19 pandemic, CSSD has been on the frontline of protecting others in the healthcare field. Their expertise in reprocessing contaminated items, like the N95 masks, has been at the tip of the spear. However, this is nothing new for CSSD. The goal of this staff has always been to protect the patient and all others who work in healthcare. Day in and day out, they are cleaning, decontaminating, and or sterilizing medical devices, surgical instruments, and patient care equipment. Infection control begins with this department. Let's hope they are not undervalued anymore!
